Bulb position light failure indicates that you have a burned bulb somewhere around the car. Check all of them. Brake lights, parking lights, flasher and so and so.

You could alo get this problem eventhough no bulb is burned. If its the case, test each bulb contact in their socket playing with them. Make sure you put some electric grease on contact replacing the bulbs.

If both bulbs for the left side and right side illuminate but dont blink, the problem is in the steering column turn signal switch.

Turn the left signal light on; go to the front of the vehicle, is the turn signal bulb illuminated? If it lights up, even though it is not blinking obviously the bulb is okay. If it doesnt, replace it- problem solved. Youll do the same procedure for the rear turn signal Is that lit up? If not replace the bulb and the problem is solved.

I have the same problem with my S80 (1999). None of my bulbs are out, we checked thoroughly. It happened once before and eventually just stopped on its own. This time its been a month and it drives me crazy. You cant see your MPG, etc.

Another common failure is when the turn signal blinks really fast, same procedure as mentioned above.

Generally speaking, symptoms of a bad or failing turn signal bulb are usually the your case, either its the front left or rear bulb. Varies for different vehicle mon signs include:

for the actual light bulb, open the trunk at the back of the lens there will be a grey circle connector, 1 is the turn light, 1 is the tail light, simply rotate that connector opposite of the position that says lock written on the circle connector, that pulls out and then you can turn the bulb and replace that.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Step 2:Please assign your manual to a product:

for the actual lens, you will need a 8mm socket and possibly a pry bar or a hammer. there are 3 8 mm bolts at the back of each lens, find them, they should be at each corner of the light, take those out, unclip the bulb harnesses mentioned above, unclip any connectors, should be 1 white one, then hammer the ends of the bolts you removed, this loosens the seal around the tail light. simply pull the tail light straight out, if it wont come out varify you removed all bolts and connestions then proceed to use the pry bar or the end of a hammer to pull the light out which will pull out towards the outside of the car not into the trunk. takes about 15 mins to do very easy.

If you are blowing any fuses related to the flasher system, you have an electrical overload in the turn signal circuitry.

the actual tail lamp lens of the light bulb inside the lens?

the position bulbs are located in the trunk and you access them the same way you access the tail lights im not sure what the bulb does but its a 10 dollar fix. FYI when you replace the bulb the message center will still tell you that it has failed you have to take it to the dealer to have them to erase the message (i just left mine it seemed a waist of money)

Inspect Brake Light Bulb:The number one reason for a brake light operation failure is a failed brake light bulb. To check this condition access the bulb by removing the rear cover located in the trunk or rear compartment. Some cars allow you to remove the entire brake light lens to retrieve the brake light bulb. Once the bulb has been removed inspect the bulb filament. If it looks broken or if the bulb is smoked the bulb needs to be replaced. If you have replaced the bulb but it still doesnt work remove the bulb. With the key in the on position have someone hold their foot on the brake pedal and use a grounded test light to carful test the terminals inside the light socket. One of the terminals should illuminate the test light. (Note: Do not touch the outer metal ring that holds the bulb in place for it is grounded and can blow the system fuse if connected to the inner terminals.) If the test light illuminates reinstall the brake light bulb. While the brake pedal is depressed test the outer metal ring that holds the bulb, if power is present the ground lead from the light socket is bad. If the outer ring does not illuminate the bulb has failed and replacement is required.

Alpha Romeo 156 My Left hand indicator light stays on continually, does not flash. and when I turn the hazard light switch on both indicators continually glow.

You could use a test light to check if you have power to the bulb. Do this while the brake pedal is depressed. First remove the bulb in question ( look at the left lens a note position of brake light) just mirror the position. With bulb removed ground one end of the test light to a bare metal body part or ground wire. Use the needle end to test the exposed contacts. You will see then once you remove the bulb. One contact is battery + and the other is the ground. While the one lead is properly grounded if the probe touches the contact and the light lights that means its getting power. If either of the contacts fails to light the test light you have a fuse or wire problem.

If the brake lights stay on continuously it could mean the brake light switch has failed or an adjustment is needed.

I had a similar light in my Camry. It usually refers to the bulbs in the rear of the car. Brake lights, rear turn signals, tail lights, reverse lights, and license plate lights. Check those and make sure none of them are burned out or loose.

When brake light bulbs are replaced with the incorrect bulb causing no or dim brake light operation

Dull or Dim Brake Light Repair:If your car has a dull or dim brake light it is dangerous to you and other drivers. A dim brake light is a mystery to most people because the bulb is working, just not correctly. First confirm a new and correct brake light bulb has been installed. Next, turn the ignition key to the on position and have a helper depress the brake pedal. With the bulb installed touch a grounded test light to the outer bulb holder ring. If the bulb brightness changes the bulb socket ground has high resistance and needs to be repaired or replaced.

The running light indicator bulb may have failed, remove the cluster and check the bulb. If the bulb has a white housing the part number is 21019273 if thebulb hasa yellow housing the part number is21019274. You may have to get the bulb from a GM/Saturn dealer. Thank you. PS There is not a fuse for theindividualbulb.

my 01 s80 volvo wont start , WHY ?????

If the left or right side blinkers dont work properly at all…then check the integrated hazard warning/turn signal flasher relay- that may be defective; again, thats usually the case if both sides of the signal light dont work.

If the fuse is alright (brake and running lights) and the left side brake light works I would suspect a bad ground or socket.

This is a very common problem with Volvo.

Preferred Procedure:Always replace brake light bulbs with manufacturers recommend replacement bulbs. If you cannot find the correct replacement bulb part number consult an auto parts store for additional manufacturer information.

Through steps like above you can also check the ground by hooking the probe back wards. Connect the clip to the Bat. + and probe the other contact to make sure the ground is working.

Scan BCM for Trouble Codes:Some cars are equipped with a body control module or BCM this onboard computer controls and lighting signals and can malfunction not allowing the electrical current to continue to the brake light circuits. This condition is rare but it can happen. If you have performed all of the tests above and all results are positive scan the BCM for trouble codes if no codes are present try replacing the BCM.

Flickering Brake Light Bulb Repair:A flickering brake light bulb can be very distracting and annoying. A brake light flickers because the power or ground is being obstructed momentarily. The most common cause for this condition is a loose fitting bulb socket. To check for this condition remove the brake light bulb in question, while a helper hold their foot on the brake pedal move the bulb around slightly in the socket. If the bulb flickers replace or repair the bulb socket as needed to regain proper brake light bulb operation. If the brake light bulb socket tests ok wiggle the brake light fuse and wiring at the brake light bulb socket, brake light switch and turn signal switch (American cars). If the brake light bulb flickers repair the component or wiring as needed.

Not sure but maybe you should verify rear position lights located in the trunk.
